As a food and lifestyle writer, I am passionate about healthy eating — I don’t stuff my face with greasy or processed meals as a rule, because I choose to avoid added salt, sugar, preservatives etc in food as they are linked to the risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes and other degenerative diseases. If something has a long list of chemical man-made ingredients I won’t touch it. This is just my preference and it is what works best for me, my body and my long term health. I grow my own vegetables and I don’t use pesticides in…
What Is Self-Advocacy?
Self-advocacy is defined as the act of representing yourself; in other words, speaking up for yourself and your interests to ensure your needs are met. Being able to speak up and push back is particularly important when receiving medical care: doctors, nurses and other staff are over-stretched, resources and support are scarce and patients may receive sub-par care under these circumstances. Patients must know what they need and how to get what they need in a way that is non-confrontational but conducive to a good ongoing relationship with care providers.
The history of self-advocacy is linked to…
After writing about YouTube Shorts to evaluate whether they are an effective marketing tool to increase reach and engagement, I did an experiment with Instagram Reels.
Instagram has aligned itself with competitors’ offerings to win a bigger share of the market.
Launched in August 2020 in response to the increasing popularity of short-video platform TikTok, Instagram Reels are “a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram”. Also: “Reels in Explore offers anyone the chance to become a creator on Instagram and reach new audiences on a global stage.”
Personally, it’s the discovery aspect that has the…
I am so glad I read this article today, I am a white CIS woman but not native to Ireland where I live (a foreigner! Scandal! I should go back to my country!) and I was getting the impression, during a recent visit to the hospital, that medical staff were being slightly dismissive and condescending. I had to stand up for myself several times but thankfully I managed to receive good care. Not many people may be that lucky if they don't speak up though.
YouTube Shorts seem to get a lot of exposure on the YouTube home page (what used to be the recommended videos) and the dedicated Shorts shelf.
In a blatant move to compete against popular short form video aggregator TikTok, YouTube is pushing shorts to generate engagement and keep viewers on the platform.
This move is similar to what Instagram has been doing in the past years, taking “inspiration” from competitors and introducing suspiciously similar features such as Stories from Snapchat and Reels from TikTok.
Shorts can be created directly from the YouTube app for some users when they click on…
Most digital nomads have witnessed that the whole work-and-travel lifestyle has been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
While remote working has been embraced in many sectors and companies ranging from SMEs to large corporates (Google and Twitter have put arrangements in place to allow their employees to work remotely, in some cases permanently), the travel aspect of the digital nomad lifestyle has become more cumbersome because of quarantines and restrictions.
Here is how the digital nomad landscape is looking from what people are searching on Google. These are some insights from Google Trends.
Is tracking Snapchat referral traffic easy compared to Instagram? The answer is no: currently there is no way to track Snapchat referrals.
Tracking Instagram referral traffic is actually very easy. If you log into your Google Analytics, you will be able to find Instragram-referred traffic under Acquisition>Social>Overview. From there, you will see a list of the social media platforms that sent traffic to your website.
Do you use Clicky? It’s quite different from Google and if you choose the free version it can be quite limited (for example, you can only access the last 28 days of web traffic). …
Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino took social media by storm in April 2017 (“the most instagrammable drink”).
The Unicorn Frappuccino was not available in the UK and, after watching videos of people in the US trying the drink and mostly being disappointed by the fact it was laden with sugar, I came up with a healthy and no sugar version. Enjoy!
6 tablespoons coconut milk
100 gr frozen raspberries
juice of 1/2 lemon
Peel the mango and cut half of it into cubes. Add the juice of half a lemon to the mango and transfer everything into a saucepan…
